Belarus asks UNESCO for more attention to scientific, technical cooperation
MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – UNESCO should pay more attention to scientific and technical cooperation. Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the relevant request as he met with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova on 18 April, BelTA has learned.
“I would like to request more attention to scientific and technical cooperation,” said the Prime Minister.
Belarus bans pork import from Latvia
MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Belarus has imposed a ban on the import of pork from Latvia’s regions Dagda, Kraslava and Zilupe, BelTA learned from the department for veterinary and food supervision at the Agriculture and Food Ministry of Belarus.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health, cases of classical swine fever were detected in a number of Latvian municipalities.
Initiative for graveyard tours in Belarus
MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Graveyard tours may be offered to tourists in Belarus. The relevant initiative was put forward by Timofei Akudovich, member of the Belarusian Committee of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), at a roundtable session on 18 April, BelTA has learned.
Night gala opening for Grodno festival of national cultures
GRODNO, 18 April (BelTA) – The 10th Festival of National Cultures due in Grodno on 6-8 June will begin at sunset and last into the night, director of the festival Vladimir Sergeichik told BelTA.
The tentative program of the festival has been approved. The line-up of guests and music acts is being compiled.
Mirnyi/Youzhny advance into Monte Carlo Rolex Masters quarterfinals
MINSK, 18 April (BelTA) – Max Mirnyi of Belarus and Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny beat sixth-seeded Frenchmen Michael Llodra and Nicolas Mahut 7-6 (7-4), 6-4) and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters, BelTA learned.
In the first round the Belarusian-Russian team outplayed the international tandem Eric Butorac of the United States and Raven Klaasen of the RSA 7-5, 6-1 in the opener on 14 April.
