VILNIUS, 27 February (BelTA) – Presentation of the album “Dmitry Strukov. Album of Drawings. 1864-1867” was held in the library of Vilnius University as part of the international Vilnius book fair. The presentation was organized by the Embassy of Belarus in Lithuania together with the publishing house “Belarusian encyclopedia of Petrus Brouka”, BelTA informed.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Lithuania Vladimir Drazhin opened the event. According to the Ambassador, the album is an important part of the national cultural heritage of Belarus. This is the album of the watercolor illustrations of the specimen of ancient wooden architecture of Belarus, temples of different religious confessions, urban and rural scenery, ancient settlements. Vladimir Drazhin gave the library of Vilnius University three books from the Library of Rarities series: D. Strukov album, album of Radziwill family portraits and the album “Living Faith. Vetka”.
The presentation was attended by scientists of Lithuania, artists, heads of diplomatic missions of different countries accredited in Lithuania such as Ukraine, Azerbaijan, China, the Czech Republic and Poland.
Following the presentation the guests attended a small concert featuring the Minsk string quartet and winner of international contests, cembalist Veronika Praded.
Dmitry Strukov is an artist of the 19th century. While traveling around the territory of the contemporary Belarus he made drawings of the specimen of architecture and church relics which survived since ancient times. His journey went from Polotsk to Minsk. He drew more than 100 ancient temples most of which were destroyed. He also made drawings of the panoramic views of ancient towns, icons, headstones, etc. For a century and a half his drawings were kept at the library of Vilnius University: each illustration in a separate envelope. All in all, there were 186 drawings.
The Album of Dmitry Strukov has been named book of the year in Belarus.
