VITEBSK, 10 April (BelTA) - The cultural relations between Latvia and Vitebsk Oblast have been rapidly developing, Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics said at a ceremony to unveil the Livonia drawings exposition in Vitebsk.
“I am happy that my working trip to Vitebsk ends on such a pleasant note. After an interesting and lengthy meeting with the head of Belarus’ Foreign Ministry Vladimir Makei I get to participate in the presentation of the exhibition of Johann Christoph Brotze, the historian and artist who is very famous in Latvia,” Edgars Rinkevics said adding that Vitebsk Oblast has been long cooperating with administrative units of Latvia.
The minister emphasized the intense cultural exchange and numerous joint cultural projects that united Vitebsk Oblast and Latvia last year. “This is a good sign,” said Edgars Rinkevics. The diplomat expressed hope that the exhibition of Brotze’s drawings marks only the beginning of the 22nd year in the Belarusian-Latvian relations, and they will become even more intensive this year.
The venue for the celebrations of 21 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Latvia is the Dukhovskoi Kruglik exhibition hall. The project "Collection of Drawings and Descriptions of Livonia by Johann Christoph Brotze at the Latvian Academic Library” was launched there on 10 April. The opening ceremony was attended by the Foreign Ministry of Latvia, the Consul of Latvia to Vitebsk, Vitebsk Mayor and other distinguished guests.
