Belarus signs $1.7mln worth of contracts at Shanghai industrial fair

The Belarusian scientific institutions and universities signed $1.7 million worth of contracts with Chinese companies and scientific centers at the Chinese International Industrial Fair (CIIF 2008) that took place in Shanghai in November, BelTA learnt from Tamara Serkova, head of the international sci-tech cooperation department of the State Science and Technology Committee of Belarus.

The Belarusian scientists presented over 150 projects. The Education Ministry of Belarus showcased technologies and equipment of its 12 universities and innovation organisations. The National Academy of Sciences of Belarus was presented by six scientific institutions. The guests of the fair got familiar with the Belarusian technologies of laser and magnetic abrasive machining, new industrial rubber articles, antifriction coating, compositions and materials for microelectronics, software tools and medical products.

Several large contracts were signed after the negotiations with the Chinese business circles. The industrial park Metolit of the Belarusian National Technical University and the Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics (the town of Changchun) inked a contract to develop software-controlled tools for magnetic abrasive polishing of the optic surface. A contract was signed to develop and deliver the products of Belarusian State University of Information Science and Radioelectronics to the Chinese HK Company Limited. The NAS Material Science Production Centre of Belarus signed a new microwave antenna production contract with the Chinese side.

The NAS Metal Technology Institute and the Chinese Zhenjiang Hongbaoli Company signed a protocol on intent to cooperate in developing new materials and technologies, advancing Belarusian innovations to the Chinese market. The NAS Metal Technology Institute and the Ceramics Institute of Shanghai inked an agreement on setting up a joint Belarus-China research laboratory to develop key materials for fuel elements.
