WARSAW, 30 July (BelTA) – An agreement on cooperation between Slupsk and Grodno was signed in the Pomorskie Province of Poland. The document was signed by President of Slupsk Maciej Kobylinski and Chairman of the Grodno City Council Boris Kozelkov. The signing of the agreement was initiated by the Vilno-Grodno organization bringing together the natives of Belarus.
The agreement creates the legal framework for expanding the contacts between the cities in educational, cultural and economic areas. The heads of the city administrations discussed a range of possible joint projects, for example interregional projects. The projects can be implemented using the funds of the European Union including the financial resources of the Eastern Partnership program. The sides also considered possible engagement of Slupsk companies in the development of the tourist infrastructure on the Belarusian part of Augustow Canal.
Consul General of Belarus in Gdansk Ruslan Yesin and president of Slupsk Maciej Kobylinski discussed the tour dates of the Presidential Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus in Slupsk. The concert will be part of the Belarus is Us campaign to be held in the Pomorskie and Lubuskie provinces. The campaign is organized by the Consulate General of Belarus in Gdansk jointly with the cultural center of Belarus in Poland. Apart from Slupsk, the Presidential Orchestra will tour Gdansk, Gdynia, Gorzow-Wielkopolski and Wejherowo. According to Maciej Kobylinski, the performance of the Belarusian musicians will be a good present for the residents of the Polish town as Slupsk marks its 745th anniversary this year. “It will become the first large Belarusian cultural event in Slupsk,” he stressed.
Slupsk authorities also expressed interest in holding the fifth regional Belarus-Pomorskie Economic Forum in autumn 2011.
Besides, the delegations of Slupsk, Grodno, the Consulate General of Belarus in Gdansk as well as Belarusians who live in the Pomorskie Province laid flowers to the monument to the Soviet soldiers killed in the Slupsk liberation operation.
The number of the Pomorskie towns that established partnership with the Belarusian towns had increased over the past several years, Consul General of Belarus to Gdansk Ruslan Yesin told BelTA. Agreements on cooperation were signed between Mozyr and Chojnice, Postavy and Wejherowo, Gdansk, Polotsk and Novopolotsk. According to Ruslan Yesin, supporting initiatives of the Belarusian nationals is an important area of the country’s foreign policy that promotes preservation of traditions and culture, strengthen links with the historical homeland.
