Chinese corporation to build two traffic interchanges in Minsk

30.07.2010 19:45

MINSK, 30 July (BelTA) – The construction of two traffic interchanges will begin in Minsk this year. The general contractor is the Chinese corporation Beijing Uni-Construction Group, BelTA learned from representatives of the state-run road construction and repairs enterprise Gorremavtodor.

The interchanges will be built in Timiryazev Street – Orlovskaya Street and Alibegov Street – Dzerzhinsky Avenue. The project has already passed expert evaluation and the relevant contracts have been signed. There are plans to sign contracts for subcontract work by the road and bridge construction and accomplishment office of Minsk City Hall in August. In the future the Chinese corporation may take part in building other traffic interchanges.

The agreement to implement joint projects in Minsk was reached as PRC Vice President Xi Jinping visited Belarus on 24-25 March. The possibility of implementing 15 projects in Minsk using Chinese bank loans is under consideration. Experts believe that the value of contracts that may be signed later can exceed $1.5 billion.

By 2020 Minsk authorities plan to build 20 traffic interchanges. In 2011 two will be commissioned, in 2012 – three, and in 2013 - another three. The city authorities believe they will be a major breakthrough in the development of the city infrastructure, making traveling along Minsk streets easier.
