MINSK, 23 October (BelTA) – The Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Secretariat of the World Customs Organization (WCO) signed a protocol of intentions, BelTA learnt from the CIS Executive Committee.
The document signing ceremony took place in Moscow on 22 October. The document was signed by CIS Executive Committee Chairman Sergei Lebedev and WCO Secretary General Kunio Mikuriya. The document says that the parties agree to help the customs administrations of the CIS member states in the adoption and implementation of standards in customs and other mechanisms developed and recommended by the WCO.
Under the protocol, the WCO will assist the Executive Committee in the development of new legislation and bringing the existing legal acts in customs matters in line with international standards and practices of the WCO. According to the document, the sides will hold consultations, seminars, exchange information, documents, reference materials and recommendations in customs matters.
