MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) – Interpol will help Belarus provide security during the 2014 IIHF World Championships, BelTA learned from Alexander Petran, Head of the National Central Bureau of Interpol in Belarus.
The source said that Interpol can send teams of specialists for mass events. In particular, such teams are now sent to Ukraine and Poland in view of the European football championships. Belarus may get this kind of aid in 2014.
Interpol specialists can help provide public order. Tourists from various countries usually attend major championships and are sometimes not law-abiding. Therefore, the need for sharing up-to-date information and using certain equipment and experts arises, said Alexander Petran. In his words, the Interpol specialists have considerable experience of working in units similar to the Belarusian public order police.
Such Interpol specialists worked at a recent football championship in South Africa and at a hockey championship in Slovakia.
