MOSCOW, 11 March (BelTA) – Rescue teams continue to search for four Belarusians trapped in an avalanche in the Murmansk oblast of Russia. An additional rescue group has arrived at the scene of the accident, BelTA learnt from the Murmansk oblast office of the Emergencies Ministry of Russia.
The rescue operation was suspended yesternight as darkness fell. About 25°C below zero, snowfalls and strong wind hinder the rescue operations.
A reminder, a group of six Belarusian tourist arrived at the Khibiny region on 3 March. The group has not registered at Murmansk rescue service as required by the safety measures. The avalanche took place on 8 March at 2.30 pm. Four Belarusians including two girls were trapped in the snow slide, two others to escape. At first, they were trying to rescue their friends themselves. After failing to do it, they went to the nearest settlement to ask for help. They reached the regional center only on the evening of 9 March.. At the moment four Belarusian tourists are considered missing.
