A monument to Zinoviy Kolobanov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, will be unveiled in Minsk on September 8, BelTA was informed by the press service of the Chamber of Representatives of the Belarus National Assembly.
Attending the ceremony will be vice-speaker of the lower chamber Sergey Zabolotets, officials of the defense ministry, the Russian embassy to Belarus, the Belarus republican youth union and the city authorities.
On August 19, 1941 in a battle not far away from Leningrad, a tank company under command of Zinoviy Kolobanov destroyed 43 German tanks, and his tank crew – 22 tanks.
After the war Zinoviy Kolobanov served in the Belarus Military District. He retired in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel; later worked for Minsk Auto Works. He died in 1995 and was buried in the Chizhovka cemetery in Minsk.
The project on construction of the monument to the fearless tankman was sponsored by director of the company AGAVA Vasiliy Monich. The businessman has also initiated the issue on awarding Zinoviy Kolobanov the title of Hero of Russia posthumously.
