Belarusian experience of tackling Chernobyl catastrophe in demand

27.10.2009 15:22

MINSK, 27 October (BelTA) – The Belarusian experience of alleviating consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe is in demand, said Olga Lugovskaya, Head of the Scientific Support and International Cooperation Office of the Department for Alleviating Chernobyl Catastrophe Consequences.

Belarus possesses unique experience and knowledge of what to do after an emergency at a nuclear power plant. With rapid spread of nuclear power engineering across the globe, the experience is extremely needed. Many foreign specialists are interested in getting it. “The time when we needed humanitarian aid from foreigners is over. Now they request information aid from us,” said Olga Lugovskaya.

The specialist believes that it is now important to preserve the accumulated knowledge of restoring polluted territories, agricultural practices and medical aid to the affected population. The first-hand knowledge of addressing Chernobyl problems is especially valuable.

A new website www.rbic.by has been designed to accumulate all the information about the Chernobyl catastrophe and overcoming its consequences.
