MINSK, 13 August (BelTA) – The nuclear waste generated by the Belarusian nuclear power plant will not be stockpiled in Belarus, Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Minister Anatoly Lis told media on 13 August.
The official said: “I have not seen the final project yet, but as far as the Ministry is aware, there are no plans to stockpile the nuclear waste the station will generate in Belarus. The nuclear waste will be transported to Russia that has the enterprises to process the waste”.
Anatoly Lis said that Lithuania had no questions to ask Belarus regarding the burial of the waste. “We have not received any official questions from them. We may have more questions for the Lithuanian side to answer because it stores nuclear waste [of the Ignalina nuclear power plant] near our border,” said Anatoly Lis. He added that the issue is regularly raised by political leaders and public organizations.
