Russia-Belarus center for space services might open in Minsk
MINSK, 20 November (BelTA) – The first Russia-Belarus center providing space services might be set up in Minsk, Director General of OAO Research and Production Corporation Record Mr Vyacheslav Bezborodov said at the 7th forum of the Union State programs in Moscow on 20 November, RIA Novosti reports.
Record is engaged in establishment of centers offering space services in the Russian Federation. These centers provide the economic sector with information from orbital groups. At present Russia is working to create the single information network to provide space services.
“We have already engaged in talks to set up a similar center in Minsk,” Vyacheslav Bezborodov said.
At the September session of the Skolkovo Foundation Scientific Advisory Council in Minsk Vyacheslav Bezborodov announced that the corporation is ready to help set up a number of centers to provide a variety of space services in Belarus, from monitoring of national parks to national security.
Director of the Space Strategy and Program Department of Roscosmos Yuri Makarov noted that Belarus and Russia might develop a joint small spacecraft for scientific and educational purposes to be used at universities of the two countries.
“As far as I know, the Belarusian State University is already working on it,” Yuri Makarov said.
In his words, this spacecraft will help study the near-Earth space. Besides, students of Belarus and Russia will have an experience of developing space hardware.
