MINSK, 19 December (BelTA) – A ceremony of cancelling a souvenir sheet issued to mark the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and Israel took place at the National Art Museum in Minsk on 18 December. The ceremony was held as part of the Days of Israeli Culture in Belarus, BelTA has learnt.
According to Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Belarus Yosef Shagal, the publication of the anniversary souvenir sheet in Minsk is a positive step. He thanked Belarus for this initiative and expressed confidence that the year 2013 would become a milestone in the relations of the two countries.
The diplomat took note of an important role Igor Leshchenya, the former Ambassador to Israel, played in strengthening the Belarusian-Israeli relations.
According to Igor Leshchenya, who now works as head of the Department for Asia and Europe of the Foreign Ministry of Belarus, the interstate relations between Belarus and Israel have been steadily developing. The official noted mutual benefit making the foundation of the bilateral cooperation.
The souvenir sheet “20th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relations between the Republic of Belarus and the State of Israel” was developed by the Communication and IT Ministry of Belarus. Communication and IT Minister Nikolai Pantelei stressed that the production of the souvenir sheet is a contribution of his ministry to the celebration of the anniversary.
Attending the ceremony were Israeli diplomats as well as the personnel of the diplomatic missions accredited in Minsk, leaders of the Jewish communities in Belarus, representatives of the ministries and agencies of Belarus, public figures.
The ceremony dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations wrapped up the events of the Days of the Israeli Culture in Belarus prepared by the Embassy of Israel in Belarus.
The diplomatic relations between Belarus and Israel were established in 1992. The bilateral relations have considerably expanded since that time. Today the two countries cooperate in trade, economic, scientific, educational, tourist, cultural and other areas.
