Belarusí aid to Interpol praised

09.12.2013 19:39

MINSK, 9 December (BelTA) Ė Solemn events timed to the 20th anniversary since the foundation of the national central office of Interpol in Belarus will take place on 10 December, representatives of the Belarusian Interior Ministry told BelTA.

Since the foundation the aid of Belarusian Interpol officers has resulted in the successful search for over 500 criminals on the wanted list in Australia, Fiji, Thailand, Lebanon and other countries, BelTA has been told. According to the source, Interpolís efforts are not limited to the search and retrieval of criminals. Interpol works to enable interaction between criminal police bodies within the framework of the national legislation of Interpol member states. Interpol also fosters the establishment and development of the necessary bodies for fighting general crimes. Using various sources, the national office of the Interpol collects data and documents, which are directly related to international police cooperation and forwards them to similar offices in other countries and to the general secretariat of the Interpol. This year the national office has maintained tight cooperation with law enforcement agencies of 106 countries out of 190 Interpol member states.

The solemn events will take place in the Interior Ministry in Minsk on 10 December. Taking part in the celebration will be top officers of the Ministry led by Acting Interior Minister Valentin Mikhnevich, representatives of the General Secretariat of the International Criminal Police Organization, and colleagues from other countries. Chairman of the Interior Ministry veterans organization Viktor Piskarev and former chiefs of the Belarusian office of Interpol Piotr Skarzhevsky and Vladimir Levitanov will make congratulation speeches.
