MINSK, 23 September (BelTA) - Head coach Boris Denic’s Dinamo Minsk lost to France’s PSG Handball in the first group stage match of the 2013/2014 EHF Champions League on 21 September. Champions of Belarus were defeated in the Group C away game 30:34 (11:12), BelTA has learnt.
In the first half of the game both sides looked great and the goal difference did not exceed one goal. At half time the score was 11:12 thanks to the successful 9-meter shot after normal time. The second half began with a goal from HC Dinamo Minsk for a 12:12 scoreline. Then the Dinamo players held ball possession and were ahead for most of the time, their lead reaching two goals at times. In the middle of the second half this figure read three goals and the Minsk side had all grounds to hope for a successful game. However, the French team created a number of well thought-out attacks and put up a good defensive display. Manager Boris Denic tried to call time-outs to help his side return into the game but this did not help the Belarusian side. In the 52nd minute the score read 28:24 to PSG Handball, while in the 57th it was 32:29. During the rest of the game Dinamo Minsk did not manage to reduce the three goal deficit and eventually lost 30:34.
Earlier two games had been played in Group C. Switzerland’s Wacker Thun lost to HC Metalurg of FYR Macedonia 22:23, while the other match FC Barcelona (Spain) vs. HC Vardar - Skopje (FYR Macedonia) ended in an unexpected draw 29:29.
